Longmont Theatre Company is pleased to host a production of Su Teatro's
La Carpa Aztlan: I Don't Speak English Only. The play with music adopts the
style of the "carpa" (traveling tent shows prominent in Mexican rural
communities throughout the Southwest and Mexico during the 1920s and '30s)
and is set in the not too distant future, in a world where books are
banned, Latino historical figures are "disappeared" from school books and
children are punished for expressing positive cultural identity. What
many thought were crazy ideas by a fringe component of the political
spectrum are now found in the mainstream of governmental policy.
I Don't Speak English Only is a funny, irreverent, satirical, musical spectacular filled with excitement, laughs and amazing feats, destined to make you laugh, cry, think, and have an amazing experience. Sponsored in part by: |
