The Longmont Theater has a wonderful summer program aimed at involving the youth in theater. We feel that people who participate in theater at an early age will develop a life-long love for the stage.

Youth Summer Workshop

Longmont Theater Company has several workshops for young thespians during the summer. One workshop is for younger children, the second for teens, and the third for advanced teens, and finally, we are offering another 24-hour lock-in workshop. All workshops include public performances.

The Elementary and Teen programs run from June 8 through July 12, 2009, with performances on July 10 through July 12. The Advanced class runs July 20 through August 9, 2009, with performances August 7, 8, and 9, at the Boulder County Fairgrounds and the Lyons Rocky Blue Grass Festival, as well as other possible venues.

Elementary program: Children who will be entering grades 1-6 are welcome in the morning from 9:00 to 12:00 p.m. All Particpants will be introduced into the excitement of the theatre world, where they will learn about stage direction, sets, costumes, and the basics of the theatre. The Artistic projects will focus on developing creativity in a theatre setting. This will all culminate in a weekend of performances of their fully staged production. Aimee Woods returns this summer to direct the program.

Teen program: Students entering grades 6 - 12 are welcome in the afternoon, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Particpants will have the basics of theatre reinforced, then they will begin to learn the basics of theatre technology, set construction, make-up, and costume design. Many activities will also focus on how to be a healthy, productive member of a community theatre. This will all end in a weekend of performances of their fully staged production. Chris Parr returns this summer to direct the teens.

Elementary and Teen programs will give their performances to the public on Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:00 p.m. on July 10, and 11; as well as Sunday, July 12 at 2:00 p.m. Registration fees are $250 per student, with family discounts available. Registration is now open! Complete the form available below, or pick up one at the theater. Contact for further info and/or interest in helping is Christopher Parr.
